LCG Celebrates Investment in Thomas Park with Four New Tennis Courts
LCG CELEBRATES INVESTMENT IN THOMAS PARK WITH FOUR NEW TENNIS COURTS
More than $1.2 million invested in Thomas Park improvements in less than two years
Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) celebrated the completion of four new competition-grade tennis courts at Thomas Park Wednesday, building on more than $1.2 million in recent investments aimed at creating active, high-quality public spaces for Lafayette residents.
The $588,000 project replaced the park’s aging tennis courts with four new competition-grade courts, upgraded fencing and infrastructure for future lighting. Funded through City Sales Tax and a State Treasury Appropriation, the project was designed by Chase Marshall Architects and constructed by GeoSurfaces. Construction began in October 2025.
The new courts are the latest in a series of improvements at Thomas Park that also include the skate park, a new mural and recreation center improvements. Together, LCG has invested more than $1.2 million at Thomas Park in less than two years, giving residents more opportunities to play, exercise, gather and connect.
“Quality of life is really about the things people value every day—the places where our kids play, families spend time together and neighbors connect,” said Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. “The people of Lafayette want parks and public spaces they can be proud of, and Thomas Park is a great example of what that investment can look like. More than $1.2 million invested here in less than two years means more opportunities for our young people, our families and this entire community. I’m grateful to our Council for continuing to prioritize these investments, and I’m excited that together we’re going to do even more for our parks in the year ahead.”
As Lafayette grows, LCG is working to ensure its public spaces grow with it. Investments in parks and recreation create more opportunities for young people to play, adults to stay active, families to gather and neighbors to connect—all part of building a community where people want to live, work and raise a family.
“Every improvement we make gives our community another reason to get outside, be active and enjoy our parks,” said Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture (PARC) Director Byron Starks. “These new courts give residents of all ages and skill levels another place to play, compete and connect. Ultimately, a great park is one people use, and we’re excited to see these courts full.”
LCG recognized City District 3 Councilwoman Liz Hebert; the Acadiana Tennis Association, including Kathy Ruckstuhl, Tonya and Paul Anderson, Jansz Conradi and members of the association’s board; Chase Marshall Architects; GeoSurfaces; and the many others who advocated for these improvements and helped bring the new courts to life.
The completion of the tennis courts builds on LCG’s continued investment in Thomas Park as a place for recreation, connection and community, creating improvements residents can see, experience and use every day.
