Public Works is primarily responsible for construction and/or maintenance of parish-wide roads, bridges, and drainage infrastructure as well as maintenance of over 100 LCG owned buildings and more than 1,900 pieces of equipment. Public Works also provides engineering design support services for other departments (except LUS) as well as manages the city-wide public transit system and the city-wide public parking system.  The Environmental Quality division is also under the authority of Public Works.

MISSION STATEMENT:

To provide for the engineering, construction and maintenance of buildings, streets, bridges and drainage systems and fleet maintenance for vehicles and equipment, as well as providing for a quality infrastructure and environment in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Public Works Department encompasses 181 employees who are responsible for a wealth of progress in our community. The Department’s several divisions have put these monies to work in projects that benefit the Parish of Lafayette. These divisions are:
