Veterans Day Parade ()

Military veterans will be honored this year in Lafayette’s inaugural Veterans Day Parade in November to pay tribute to their sacrifices and contributions made while serving their country. Spearheaded by Lafayette native and retired Sgt. Major Anazia Andrus-Sam, the parade, planned for the official Veterans Day observance on November 11, aims to bring awareness about the significant role veterans play in shaping our society and foster a sense of unity within the community. 

The inaugural Veterans Parade will take place on Veterans Day, November 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The parade route will cover the heart of Lafayette, passing down Jefferson Street, Johnston Street, and Garfield Street and ending at Parc International with a jamboree. 

All veterans in the Acadiana area are invited to register to ride in the parade and are welcome to attend to the jamboree at Parc International following the parade for food, fun, and veteran resources. Additional events will also be held at Cité des Arts after. More information to come.

Paper Shredding Event ()


Residents who live in the city of Lafayette and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish have an opportunity to safely destroy personal and confidential paper documents at no charge. Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Department of Environmental Quality and Keep Lafayette Beautiful are hosting Paper Shredding Day. The event is designed to promote recycling and protect against identify theft. 

Only documents containing personal and sensitive information will be accepted. Documents from businesses will not be accepted. 

Paper Shredding Day is on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Robicheaux Recreation Center from 9 a.m.-noon. The address is 1919 Eraste Landry Road. 

Event Details: 

  • Open only to residents of the city of Lafayette and residents of unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish. No businesses allowed.
  • Papers can be stapled but must be free of binders and clips.
  • The limit per household is three kitchen-sized garbage bags.
  • Only documents containing personal and sensitive information will be accepted. Magazines, newspapers, books, and other recyclables are not accepted.

LPD's Trunk of Treat Event ()

The Lafayette Police Department will be holding a Trunk or Treat event on Monday, October 30 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Girard Park located at 500 Girard Park Drive.


The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center and SpayNation for Dogs and Cats are offering free rabies vaccines for dogs only on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 8 a.m.-noon. Discounted microchipping is also available for $20 (cash only), and a limited quantity of $20 spay/neuter vouchers are available. 

The clinic is open from 8 a.m.-noon at the CAJUNDOME. Drivers should enter through Gate 8 off Congress Street.
