Commuter Connections Plan Targets 18 Lafayette Projects
LCG ANNOUNCES COMMUTER CONNECTION PLAN
A Once-In-A-Generation Opportunity to Invest in Connection
LAFAYETTE, LA – Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet announced the Lafayette Commuter Connections initiative, creating a roadmap for the Parish of Lafayette to make a once-in-a-generation investment of over $70 million to help reduce the amount of time we spend on congested roadways.
Every day, thousands of people travel between Lafayette Parish communities to get to work, take children to school, attend appointments, support local businesses and visit family. Commuter Connections focuses on strategic investments designed to make those trips safer, more reliable and more efficient.
Lafayette’s Commuter Connections reflect Mayor-President Boulet’s focus on making strategic, data-informed investments in the infrastructure Lafayette Parish needs as it grows. The proposed investment includes 18 projects focused on:
- Roundabouts: Improving safety, keeping traffic moving efficiently, and reducing the number of crashes and severity of injuries
- Signaling/Turning Lanes: Adding turn lanes and upgrading signals to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance safety.
- Road Widening: Expanding key corridors to accommodate growth, reduce congestion, and improve reliability.
- Parish wide Signal Retiming & Synchronization: Optimizing existing traffic signals across the parish to improve flow, reduce stops, and save time for everyone.
“We are focusing on the corridors that move the most people, create the biggest bottlenecks and have the greatest impact on daily life in Lafayette Parish,” said Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. “This is an opportunity to invest in our future to fundamentally improve our entire transportation system – with ZERO new tax burden.”
With each project and priority gathered by collecting traffic data, crash analysis, and public feedback from LCG’s Growth Plan efforts, plans can be put in place to fund this mission towards connection.
Moving these transportation investments forward will begin with the renewal of an existing bond millage that Lafayette Parish voters will consider on December 12, 2026. The proposition, if approved, will renew the existing 1.85 mill dedicated to funding local infrastructure. This is not a new tax. It is the renewal of the existing Debt Bond.
“Growth is happening right now in our parish,” said Mayor-President Boulet, “If we continue to grow at the current rate, we should expect 50,000 new people here by 2050. Every year we wait means more congestion and lost time. Acting now gives us a chance to get ahead of the growth that is coming.”
