Lafayette Commuter Connections

Strong Communities Need Strong Connections.

Every day, thousands of people travel between Lafayette Parish communities to get to work, take children to school, attend appointments, support local businesses, and visit family. Commuter Connections is a parishwide transportation initiative focused on improving the corridors people rely on every day. As Lafayette Parish continues to grow, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in the transportation corridors that connect our communities for decades to come.

Better Commutes Mean:

Less Time in Traffic

More reliable trips and fewer delays on the routes people use most.

Safer Travel

Strategic improvements based on crash data, roadway conditions, and engineering analysis.

Stronger Infrastructure

Roadway projects coordinated with drainage improvements whenever feasible.

A More Competitive Parish

Better movement for workers, customers, emergency responders, and commerce.

A Smarter Approach to Moving Lafayette Parish

This proposed investment includes:

18 Projects. One Connected Parish.

Every project in this package was selected with a purpose: to solve real transportation challenges, improve daily commutes, and prepare Lafayette Parish for the growth that’s happening. Using traffic data, crash analysis, and public feedback via our Growth Plan efforts, we've identified the projects that will make the biggest difference for the people who travel these routes every day.

Growth is Happening. So is Congestion.

Lafayette Parish will continue to grow with or without these investments. Starting now gives us the opportunity to ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with growth and supports the families, businesses, and communities that will depend on it for decades to come.

The longer we wait to start, the longer we wait to benefit. Every year we wait can mean:

  • More congestion
  • Higher construction costs
  • Longer commutes
  • Lost time = lost productivity for commuters and employers

One Vision. Multiple Funding Sources.

The bond renewal does not fund this vision alone. Delivering Commuter Connections will require a combination of local, state and federal resources.

  • Bond Revenue: Dedicated local funding to advance priority projects and position Lafayette Parish to pursue additional funding opportunities. This is the foundation.
  • Capital Outlay: State capital investments secured for eligible infrastructure projects
  • Local Match + Dedications: Local dollars that can help meet matching requirements and advance priority projects.
  • State Funding: Partnerships and transportation funding opportunities through the State of Louisiana, bringing dollars home to Lafayette.
  • Federal Grants: Competitive federal programs that can help leverage local dollars and expand what we're able to deliver.

Lafayette Consolidated Government will continue working with state and regional partners to identify opportunities through this effort and others to further reduce congestion across Lafayette Parish.

More About Commuter Connections

This proposal renews an existing bond millage (not a new tax) to improve the commuter corridors people rely on every day.

Moving these transportation investments forward starts with renewing an existing source of dedicated local funding. Lafayette Parish voters will consider the bond millage renewal on December 12, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

LCG's Commuter Connections is a parishwide transportation initiative focused on reducing congestion, improving safety, and making it easier to travel between our communities throughout Lafayette Parish. The proposed investments target key commuter routes and intersections that thousands of people rely on every day to get to work, school, appointments, businesses, and home.

Projects were identified based on traffic and congestion data, anticipated growth, existing transportation needs, and their potential to improve connectivity across Lafayette Parish. The focus is on strategic investments—including road widenings, intersection improvements, roundabouts, and traffic signal upgrades—that can have the greatest impact on how people move throughout the parish.

Yes. Drainage will be evaluated and addressed as part of the design and engineering of each project, where applicable. Road improvements must account for how water moves through and around the project area, and necessary drainage improvements will be incorporated into project design.

Commuter Connections is not intended to address every road or transportation need in Lafayette Parish. It focuses on a specific set of high-impact projects designed to improve major commuter routes and relieve congestion across the broader transportation network. Other local and state roadway projects will continue to move forward through separate funding sources and partnerships.
