Johnston-Louisiana Corridor Open House Set for Oct. 26
LCG INVITES COMMUNITY TO JOHNSTON-LOUISIANA CORRIDOR OPEN HOUSE OCTOBER 26
Residents, businesses and corridor users invited to help shape future improvements and long-term investment along the 8.5-mile corridor
Lafayette, LA — Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) invites residents, business owners, property owners, and community stakeholders to attend a Community Open House for the Johnston-Louisiana Corridor Project on Monday, October 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Downtown Convention Center (124 S. Buchanan Street, Lafayette).
The open house is the next opportunity to participate in LCG’s recently launched public engagement effort for the Johnston-Louisiana Corridor, which includes community and business surveys, an interactive mapping tool, and opportunities for direct input throughout the planning process. Project information and all current opportunities to participate are available at lafayettela.gov/johnston.
At the open house, the public can learn more about the project, meet the planning and design team, share experiences along the corridor, and provide input on the challenges and opportunities that will shape its future.
The Johnston-Louisiana Corridor Project takes a comprehensive approach to improving transportation safety, traffic flow, drainage, aging infrastructure, pedestrian and bicycle accessibility, and economic development opportunities along the 8.5 thoroughfare from I-10 to Ambassador Caffery. The goal is to reinvest in the corridor, making it a safer, more connected, resilient, and vibrant place to live, work, do business, and invest, while preparing for Lafayette’s anticipated growth ahead.
With more than $50 million in initial investment identified for the corridor, LCG is moving forward with planning and design work necessary to turn that investment into meaningful improvements.
Community Input Will Help Shape the Plan
The project is currently in its planning and design phase, and public participation is an essential part of the process. The Community Open House will give participants an opportunity to explore the seven segments of the corridor, identify priorities, discuss concerns, and share ideas directly with the project team.
The community is also invited to complete the online surveys available to residents and businesses:
- Community Survey: Provides residents and corridor users an opportunity to identify priorities, challenges and opportunities for improvement.
- Local Business Owner Survey: Focuses on access, operations, investment and other issues affecting businesses and properties along the corridor.
- Interactive Mapping Survey: Allows participants to identify specific locations along the corridor where they experience challenges or see opportunities for improvement.
All three surveys are available at lafayettela.gov/johnston.
From Community Input to Design Integrity
Community feedback will be considered alongside technical analysis to develop and evaluate alternatives and establish a clear path for advancing priority improvements through design and construction. Lafayette Consolidated Government will oversee and maintain design integrity, prioritizing infrastructure improvements that enhance transportation, safety, and drainage while reflecting the community's needs and priorities.
Phase One will continue through 2027, with construction currently anticipated to begin in 2028.

About the Johnston-Louisiana Corridor Project: This multi-phase initiative aims to transform an 8.5-mile stretch from Interstate 10 at Louisiana Avenue to Ambassador Caffery into a safer, more connected, and resilient transportation corridor. The project links neighborhoods, businesses, Downtown Lafayette, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Moncus Park, and major commercial centers.
For generations, Johnston Street and Louisiana Avenue have been central to Lafayette’s growth and daily life. Today, the corridor faces challenges such as congestion, aging infrastructure, drainage and utility needs, and safety concerns. Through a comprehensive, community-driven approach, the project will address these issues — improving transportation, safety, connectivity, and the corridor’s appearance to foster economic growth and safer, more accessible travel for everyone.
