Know Your Elevation
- Elevation Certificate List
- Who Needs Them & Why?
- Do Elevation Certificates Expire?
- Although there is an Expiration Date listed at the top of the certificate, Elevation Certificates are valid in perpetuity, unless there is a modification or addition to the existing structure that changes the lowest finished floor. If your community adopted new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and your building has not changed, your insurance agent can rate your policy using the information on the old EC and the FIRM used to rate your policy.
Your insurance may request a community letter to update the FIRM & Base Flood Elevation Information. If there was a decrease in your Base Flood Elevation, then a community letter may assist in reducing your flood insurance premiums. If your Base Flood Elevation increased, discuss your options with your insurance agent.
You can request a community letter by sending an email to Clay Boudreaux with the full property address.
