FIRE STATION #13 TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE FOR ROOF REPLACEMENT AND FACILITY UPGRADES

Six-month project will modernize infrastructure while maintaining uninterrupted fire service

LAFAYETTE, LA – Fire Station #13, located at 6507 Johnston Street, will temporarily close beginning Friday, April 24, 2026, to undergo a comprehensive roof replacement and interior renovation project. Construction is expected to take approximately six months, with an estimated total investment of $582,000.

Originally built in 1999, the station requires critical upgrades to address ongoing maintenance issues and improve overall functionality. The project includes replacement of the existing metal roof due to recent water intrusion, along with a full HVAC system upgrade, including new ductwork. Interior repairs will address ceiling damage caused by leaks, and lighting will be upgraded to energy-efficient fixtures. Additional improvements include interior repainting and select exterior enhancements.

During the closure, personnel assigned to Fire Station #13 will be temporarily relocated to a nearby facility at 201 Curran Lane. The Lafayette Fire Department has implemented operational adjustments to ensure there is no disruption in service or emergency response coverage for the surrounding area.

“Adequate fire protection remains our top priority,” said Interim Fire Chief John Bourgeois. “While temporarily closing a station is never taken lightly, we have taken every step necessary to ensure response times remain efficient and service levels are maintained. The community served by Fire Station #13 can be confident that our firefighters will continue to respond quickly and effectively.”
