Lafayette Advances I-49 Connector with DSEIS Signing and INFRA Grant Application

MAYOR-PRESIDENT MONIQUE B. BOULET CELEBRATES MOMENTUM FOR THE I-49 CONNECTOR PROJECT

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) is celebrating the continued momentum of the I-49 Connector Project thanks to a signing and a submission for grant funding.

Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet, along with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), Senator Brach Myers, and representatives of Governor Jeff Landry’s office met in Baton Rouge to sign the I-49 Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.

"The signing of the DSEIS is a major milestone for the I-49 Connector and brings Lafayette one step closer to delivering one of the most important infrastructure projects in our community’s history," Mayor-President Boulet said. "This achievement reflects years of planning and partnership, and we are now working closely with our state and federal partners to identify the funding needed to begin construction of the project’s first interchange. I am grateful to the Louisiana DOTD and Governor Jeff Landry for their continued leadership and support throughout this process.”

Along with this signing, today LCG submitted a grant for the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway Projects (INFRA) Program. This grant requests $30 million federal INFRA funding to go along with $20 million from LADOTD which is committed to the pre-construction costs associated with the US 90 and E. Kaliste Saloom Interchange Project.

If awarded, the pre-construction will advance final engineering plans, row of way acquisition, and utility relocation for the E. Kaliste Saloom Project to be “shovel-ready” and will continue the positive momentum of improving safety, efficiency, and reliability of the I-49 Connector.

This project will convert the existing intersection into a grade-separated interchange. This includes work on ramps, flyover bridges, and roadway improvements along 2.2 miles of Kaliste Saloom Rd. and 3.5 miles of US-90

Mayor-President Boulet says, “The I-49 Connector will improve mobility, reduce congestion, strengthen our economy, and better connect our community. Together, we will make this project a reality and build a stronger future for Lafayette and Louisiana."
