MAYOR-PRESIDENT MONIQUE B. BOULET TO HOST NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER SERVICE AT ST. JOHN’S CATHEDRAL HALL
Lafayette, LA – Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet invites the community for a special observance of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at St. John’s Cathedral Hall. The event, sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes and Kishbaugh Construction, will provide an opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds and faiths to unite in prayer and fellowship.
The National Day of Prayer, now in its 75th year, is an annual observance recognized across the United States, bringing people together to seek wisdom, guidance, and strength for the nation and its leaders. And as the United States of America celebrates its 250th Anniversary, this year’s day of prayer shows the strength and resilience prayer gives this nation to keep moving forward. This year’s gathering in Lafayette will echo the national theme calling America to ‘Glorify God Among the Nations- Seeking Him in All Generations.’
“As we come together in prayer, we’re reminded that faith and family are what truly makes our community strong,” said Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. “Prayer is a powerful way to guide our leaders and bring hope for Lafayette’s future.”
Local faith leaders and community members will offer prayers for the city, state, and nation, emphasizing themes of leadership, peace, and prosperity. Attendees will also have an opportunity to reflect on the significance of prayer in both personal and civic life.

About the National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States, with the Continental Congress proclaiming a day of prayer in 1775. In 1952, Congress established an annual National Day of Prayer, and in 1988, it was officially designated to be observed on the first Thursday of May. The National Day of Prayer Task Force mobilizes nearly 19,000 prayer missionaries across the country, organizing tens of thousands of local gatherings. On May 1st, prayers will be poured out across all 50 states and U.S. territories, with a collective call for spiritual renewal guidance.
