La Légion d’Honneur The French Legion of Honor is the Highest French Distinction. The French Legion of Honor was created to reward eminent military and civil merits in the service of France. In 2004, the French government began awarding the medal to any surviving World War II veteran who took part in the liberation of France.
How to Apply for the Legion of Honor: Upon presentation of their military file as detailed in this document, US veterans who served in France during World War II are eligible for this distinction.
