Lafayette has several buildings and districts listed on the National Register for Historic Places. These properties may be eligible for historic rehabilitation tax incentives, which are building and property rehabilitation tax credits and abatements provided by both the National Park Service and the State Division of Historic Preservation. To be eligible for tax incentives, a project must meet certain criteria. Generally, a property must:
- Have an approved application prior to starting rehabilitation work, and
- Be listed on the National Register, or
- Be a historic property within a National Register Historic District, or
- Be a National Register eligible property within one of Lafayette’s Cultural Districts.
