University Avenue Corridor Plan

The University Avenue Corridor Plan representing the community's vision to transform University Avenue into a vibrant, multi-modal corridor, with complete streets improvements, better access management, and improved connectivity for adjacent neighborhoods and surrounding uses has been finalized and supported by both the Lafayette City-Parish Council and Planning Commission. The plan outlines a transformation framework, highlighting individual elements, to position the University Avenue Corridor for potential redevelopment and renewed investment.

The University Avenue Corridor Plan was based on three major goals: 

• Create a Safe and Connected Corridor - Develop a complete street corridor that is safe for pedestrians, connects adjoining neighborhoods and improves pedestrian and vehicular mobility within the corridor.
• Create a Framework for Revitalization - Project catalyst sites were selected where development or redevelopment is desired or poised to occur that can strengthen the existing business base and provide additional goods and services leading to positive economic growth for the area.
• Create a Dynamic and Inviting Gateway and Corridor - Develop a program that signifies the importance of University Avenue as a primary gateway for the City of Lafayette.
