Found a Pet
Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center is a municipal facility and is therefore obligated to intake every animal that comes to the facility no matter the amount of space available. We ask that citizens hold on to strays for at least 3 days in attempt to find its owner. Studies have shown that most dogs are found within a few miles of its home.
If you find a stray dog/cat:
Take pictures of the dog and post it on social media. Please use the “Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center Lost and Found” Facebook page as well as any homeowners association page.
Bring the pet to a local veterinarian’s office to have the pet scanned for a microchip. This is free of charge and the quickest way to reunite pets with owners.
Use Petco Love Lost to create the pet’s profile and report it as found. Petco Love Lost is the largest FREE lost and found national database using photo-matching technology to reunite lost pets.
Post flyers in the neighborhood.
Try to re-home the pet to a safe, loving home.
If all else fails, call Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center to drop off your stray. Available appointments are M-F 1-4:30 p.m.
