Operations & Maintenance

Streets, Roads & Bridges is responsible for safe conditions and orderly appearance of all streets, bridges, roadways, road shoulders, sidewalks and curbs in the City and Parish.

Street Division is responsible for:
  • 59 miles of concrete streets
  • 950 miles of asphalt streets
  • 75 miles of aggregate roads (includes affidavit roads)
  • 214 off-system bridges (spanning more than 20 feet)
  • 200+ smaller bridge structures
  • 70 miles of sidewalks
  • 5,000+ man hours necessary to cover Mardi Gras, other parade and festival activities
  • Approximately 3,000 Request for Service received yearly

Bridge Maintenance Services Provides:

  • Bridge Maintenance Services Provides:
  • Construction, repair and maintenance of all bridges
  • Preparing of bridge decks for maintenance sealing
  • Coordinate beaver trapping in the area of all bridges
  • Maintain drainage stub-ins

Grounds Maintenance Services Provides:

  • Maintenance of medians, boulevards, rights-of-way, roadsides, parks, etc.
  • Arbor crew prunes low-hanging branches over city streets, sidewalks, etc.
  • Remove high-risk and/or hazardous trees in right-of-way
  • Placing in excess of 5,500 barricades for Festival events such as Mardi Gras
  • Coordinate service for 120 portable toilets along parade routes
  • Coordinate emptying of 30 cubic yards roll-off dumpsters during events
