Progress You Can See Across Lafayette Parish

Under the leadership of Monique B. Boulet, Lafayette Parish is advancing bold projects and strategic initiatives that strengthen infrastructure, improve mobility, support economic growth, and enhance quality of life for residents.

From roadway and drainage improvements to revitalization efforts and community investments, these projects are designed to build a stronger, safer, and more connected future for generations to come.

Take a look at some of the transformative projects currently underway across Lafayette Parish.

Connecting Community, Safety, and Mobility

Bertrand Drive Revitalization

The Bertrand Drive Revitalization project is transforming one of Lafayette’s most traveled corridors into a safer, more accessible, and more connected destination for residents, students, businesses, and visitors alike. The project will improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity, enhance traffic flow, and support economic growth along the corridor.

Planned improvements include shared-use pathways, expanded sidewalks, upgraded intersections, and improved access connecting Moncus Park, Cajun Field, nearby neighborhoods, and local businesses. This project serves as a major step toward Lafayette’s broader vision for safer multimodal transportation and revitalized public spaces.

Modernizing One of Lafayette’s Most Important Corridors

Johnston Street & Louisiana Avenue Infrastructure Improvements

The Johnston Street and Louisiana Avenue Infrastructure Improvements project is a long-term investment focused on modernizing one of Lafayette’s most critical transportation and business corridors. Stretching from I-10 to Ambassador Caffery, this multi-phase initiative will address aging infrastructure, drainage deficiencies, traffic congestion, and pedestrian safety concerns along the corridor.

Improvements will include upgraded stormwater systems, enhanced traffic flow, modernized intersections, improved sidewalks and bike access, and infrastructure upgrades designed to support future growth and redevelopment. With more than $45 million currently identified in local, state, and federal funding, the project represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the corridor’s history.

As work progresses in phases, residents can expect ongoing updates and opportunities for public engagement throughout the planning and construction process.

Innovative Solutions for Lafayette’s Infrastructure Future

Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge

Lafayette was selected as one of the global winners of the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2025–2026 Mayors Challenge — earning national recognition and $1 million in support for innovative infrastructure solutions.

The initiative focuses on addressing aging private sewer infrastructure that contributes to stormwater infiltration and capacity challenges throughout Lafayette Parish. By developing a collaborative, data-driven approach to identifying and repairing failing sewer laterals, the project aims to strengthen infrastructure, reduce flooding impacts, and unlock new opportunities for housing and redevelopment.

This effort reflects Lafayette’s commitment to forward-thinking solutions that improve everyday services while preparing the community for future growth.

Planning for the Future of Lafayette Parish

Lafayette Parish Growth Plan

Lafayette Parish is growing. New homes, businesses, and investment continue to shape our communities and create opportunities for residents throughout the parish. The Lafayette Parish Growth Plan is a long-range planning initiative designed to help ensure that future growth is supported by the infrastructure, services, and policies needed to sustain a high quality of life.

The plan will evaluate current development patterns, infrastructure capacity, community priorities, and growth trends to establish a framework for managing future growth while maintaining local control and protecting the interests of existing and future residents.
